Elwood Staffing Historical Timeline

Elwood Staffing wasn’t always a staffing company and maybe that's what makes us such a good one. The company originally provided employee opinion surveys and pre-employment testing, so the very core of our business has always been to understand "what makes people tick" and to find the best person for the job.

1980 Elwood Consulting is established The company is founded by Dr. David L. Elwood in Columbus, Indiana, and begins providing pre-employment testing services under the name Elwood Consulting.


1987 Mark S. Elwood joins the company Mark S.Elwood, the middle son, graduates from Indiana University and joins the company. At that time, services expand to include employee opinion surveys.


1993 Services Expand Services are expanded to include interviewing, skill testing, drug testing, making hiring recommendations, arranging for physicals and handling applicant phone calls and correspondence.


1994 Temporary Staffing Services offered As the company expands to offer a full range of temporary services, the company’s "5 Key Beliefs" are adopted. These include: Quality, Progress, Responsiveness, Flexibility, and Relationships.


1995 Incorporated as Elwood Consulting Company, Inc. The company is incorporated as Elwood Consulting Company, Inc. The company opens a second satellite office in Martinsville, Indiana.


1996 John A. Elwood joins the company John A. Elwood, the youngest of the three sons, moves from a career with Burlington Industries to join Elwood Consulting.


1997 The company's name is changed to Elwood Staffing Services, Inc. The new logo shows two men and two women encircling the "e" for Elwood, representing the people who are the company’s business. Purple is chosen because it’s a strong color, not tied to gender. It’s also a color none of the competition uses.


1997 Growth 100 Award Elwood Staffing is awarded the Growth 100 Award from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business for the first time. The company profile showed that Elwood had 6 employees in 1996 and had grown to 12 by 1997.


1997 Mark S. Elwood is named President Mark S. Elwood assumes the role of President of Elwood Staffing. Mark's keen business sense and strong sales focus are an excellent choice for a company with an eye toward expansion.


1998 Growth 100 Award In November, 1998, Elwood Staffing is profiled as one of Indiana’s Growth 100 companies by Indiana Business Magazine.


1998 Mark S. Elwood is named "Small Business Person of the Year" The Columbus (Indiana) Chamber of Commerce names Mark S. Elwood the 1998 Small Business Person of the Year.


2000 John A. Elwood is named Executive Vice President John A. Elwood is promoted to Executive Vice President. Prior to his promotion, John served as branch manager and sales representative.


2000 Steven J. Hunnicutt, CPA, joins the company Steven J. Hunnicutt, CPA, leaves Arvin Industries to join Elwood Staffing as Controller. Hunnicutt previously did consulting work for Elwood Staffing while employed in public accounting.


2000 The first Rolex watch is awarded Shirley Gates receives the first Rolex watch for 5 years of service with the company.


2001 Elwood Staffing acquires Job Placement Services Elwood Staffing makes its first acquisition when it purchases Job Placement Services of Valparaiso, Indiana.


2002 Steven J. Hunnicutt, CPA, is named Chief Financial Officer Steven J. Hunnicutt, CPA, is promoted to the position of Chief Financial Officer for Elwood Staffing.


2003 Groundbreaking Ground is broken for the Corporate Headquarters in Columbus, Indiana


2003 Mark S. Elwood and John A. Elwood are promoted Mark S. Elwood assumes the position of Chief Executive Officer, and John A. Elwood becomes President and Chief Operating Officer.


2003 New Corporate Headquarters opens for business The new Corporate Headquarters opens for business with an open house for current and prospective clients, as well as community representatives.


2004 Hubbuch Staffing is acquired Elwood Staffing acquires Hubbuch Staffing of New Albany, Indiana.


2004 Michael D. Elwood joins the company Michael D. Elwood, the eldest son, leaves Hewlett-Packard to join Elwood Staffing as Executive Vice President. Mike’s extensive background in banking mergers and acquisitions makes an excellent addition to the executive team.


2005 Elwood Staffing ranked 4th Largest in Indianapolis Area Elwood Staffing is ranked the 4th Largest Temporary Employment Service in the Indianapolis area


2005 Elwood ranked one of America's Fastest-Growing Companies Elwood Staffing is ranked one of America's fastest-growing private staffing companies.


2005 Elwood named a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Award The Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business names Elwood Staffing a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Award of Distinction in the Growth category.


2006 TRI Staffing is acquired Elwood Staffing acquires TRI Staffing, the largest privately held staffing company in Alabama, with additional offices in Nashville, Tennessee.


2006 Elwood Staffing expands into Georgia Elwood Staffing opens its first office in the state of Georgia. The office is strategically located on Highway 20 between Atlanta and Birmingham.


2006 Michael Stockard, Jr., is appointed Vice President of Sales Michael Stockard, Jr., formerly of TRI Staffing, brings 13 years of staffing experience to his position as Vice President of Sales.


2006 Elwood Staffing acquires Premier Staffing of Indianapolis, Indiana Elwood acquires Premier Staffing of Indianapolis, Indiana. The acquisition complements an already prominent market share in the Indianapolis metropolitan area.


2006 The first European trip is awarded Shirley Gates is the recipient of the first European trip for 10 years of service. Shirley and husband, Lester, explore England courtesy of Elwood Staffing.


2006 Elwood Staffing ranked 5th Largest Indianapolis Area The Indianapolis Business Journal ranks Elwood Staffing the 5th Largest Temporary Employment Service in the Indianapolis area.


2006 Elwood Staffing ranked one of America's Fastest-Growing Companies Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. names Elwood Staffing as one of America's fastest-growing private companies for the 2nd consecutive years. Companies were ranked on their growth during the 2001 to 2005 timeframe.


2006 Elwood named a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Award The Johnson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Indiana University's Kelley School of Business names Elwood Staffing a finalist for the Entrepreneurial Award of Distinction in the Growth category for the 2nd consecutive year.


2006 Elwood Staffing expands into Kentucky Elwood Staffing expands into the state of Kentucky when it opens the first Louisville office. Located only 90 minutes from company headquarters, Louisville helps bridge the gap between the Nashville, Tennessee, and Indianapolis, Indiana, markets along the I-65 corridor.


2007 Elwood Staffing is re-branded Elwood Staffing contracts with Meyer & Wallis of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Indianapolis, Indiana, to develop a new logo, tag line, and marketing campaign. Purple remains a distinguishing characteristic, but the logo is updated to reflect a cleaner, more sophisticated image.


2007 Elwood Staffing Expands into Nevada Elwood Staffing expands into the state of Nevada when it begins servicing customers in the Reno area.


2007 New marketing campaign is launched New magazine ads, radio spots, newspapers ads, and outdoor boards are unveiled in current markets.


2007 Elwood Staffing expands into Texas Elwood Staffing expands into the state of Texas when it begins servicing customers in the Fort Worth area.


2007 Michael Stockard, Jr. is named Senior Vice President Michael Stockard, Jr., is promoted to the position of Senior Vice President. Mike’s strong relationship selling and proven track record make for an ideal fit.


2007 Elwood Staffing ranked 2nd Largest in Indianapolis Area The Indianapolis Business Journal ranks Elwood Staffing the 2nd Largest Temporary Employment Service in the Indianapolis area.


2007 Elwood Staffing ranked one of America's Fastest-Growing Companies Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. names Elwood Staffing one of America’s fastest-growing private staffing companies for the 3rd consecutive year. Companies were ranked on their growth over the 2002 to 2006 timeframe.


2008 Elwood named a finalist for the Small Business Award Elwood Staffing is named a finalist for the Indiana Chamber’s 2008 Small Business of the Year Award.


2008 Elwood Staffing honored by the Talladega Alabama Chamber of Commerce Mary Jane Kiker is named Outstanding Chamber Member, and Elwood Staffing is named a finalist as Small Business of the Year by the Talladega Alabama Chamber of Commerce


2008 Elwood Staffing is named one of the 2008 Best Places to Work in Indiana Elwood Staffing is named one of the 2008 Best Places to Work in Indiana by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Employee surveys were the basis for consideration and eventual inclusion on the list.


2008 Elwood-Senior Products is made available to new and current clients Elwood-Senior Products is a collaboration between Elwood Staffing and the Senior Center to provide mature workers to the marketplace.


2008 Elwood Staffing ranked one of America’s Fastest-Growing Companies Staffing Industry Analysts, Inc. names Elwood Staffing one of America’s fastest-growing private companies for the 4th consecutive year. Companies were ranked on their growth over the 2003 to 2007 timeframe.


2008 Elwood Staffing is a winner of the ASA VOICE Award. Elwood Staffing is a winner in the 2008 American Staffing Association VOICE Awards competition— National Class. Winning entries include the "Superman" and "Warehouse Worker" magazine advertising.


2008 Elwood Recognized by Inc. 5000 Elwood Staffing is named one of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies on the annual Inc. 5000 list—with 3-year sales growth of 248.4%.


2008 Elwood Staffing is ranked 2nd Largest in Indianapolis Area The Indianapolis Business Journal ranks Elwood Staffing the 2nd Largest Temporary Employment Service in the Indianapolis area for the 2nd consecutive year.
